Protein Comparer

This research tool applies computer vision ideas about 3d shape comparison to bioinformatics. The program generates histograms based on different algorithms and compares proteins quickly. It also allows rotation, scaling, and visualization of the protein.

The protein program allows researchers to draw "comparison vectors" between protein molecules. Each vector is numbered by the difference between the two proteins histograms. Smaller numbers mean similar proteins.
The Protein Comparer allows for the speedy display and manipulation of any and all of over 26,000 molecular structures contained in the Protein Databank.
The program quickly visualizes a 3D protein. Each dot represents an Atom. Users can translate rotate and scale the protein to their heart's content.
Researchers can draw comparison vectors between proteins to quickly estimate the similarity between the two molecular structures.
Many Proteins can be compared simulataneously. THe program can animate their differences by separating the proteins in proportion to their histogram differences.
